The quality measures

One of the main quality-measures of cotton is their staple-length. The longer one staple is, the more valuable it is. Cotton is divided or rather classified into four categories:

  1. Short staple cotton: length of max 18mm
  2. Medium staple cotton: length of 18mm - 28mm
  3. Long staple cotton: more than 28mm
  4. Extra long staple cotton: min. of 35.7mm

The grand mass (approx. 60%) of the world production constitutes of medium staple cotton. Only between 3-5% of the world's cotton produced can boast itself with the name extra long staple cotton.

Only fabrics that meet the following requirements can therefore be called swiss+cotton:

  1. Yarn made from extra long staple cotton - fibre length of at least 35.7mm
  2. At least 67% of the value added to the garment is made in Switzerland
  3. Garment needs to contain at least 75% cotton
